If you love ice cream, you can easily make it at home without a fancy machine. An ice-cream maker churns the ingredients until a silky-smooth, creamy treat is created. However, the DIY method can quickly make ice-cream that’s just as yummy. Here are some popular ways to make the concoction from scratch.
Whipped Cream Way
With this method, heavy cream is turned into whipped cream and then put in a freezer. Once the ice-cream freezes, it will have a smooth texture.
Ice-Cream in a Bag
This method churns the ice cream as it freezes. No electricity or machines are involved. Your arm muscles beat the ice cream as you shake the container.
Ice Cubes, Anyone?
Ice cubes are not appetizing by themselves, but they are if you make them with fruit or yogurt.
Just pop the mixture into ice-cube trays and freeze. Put the frozen cubes and other ingredients in a food processor and pulverize. Frozen bananas make a yummy ice-cream treat. Check out this banana sundae.
How to Make No-Churn Ice Cream
Let’s talk about the steps needed to make different types of homemade ice cream, sans the machine.
The Whipped Cream Method
First, freeze a metal loaf pan you plan to put the ice-cream mixture in. It will help speed up the freezing process. Mix the flavoring ingredients. Next, whip the heavy cream with a whisk or electric mixer until firm peaks form. Fold it all together and freeze for about two hours in the metal pan. The ice cream should resemble soft serve. Mix in the chunky ingredients like chocolate pieces, crushed cookies or nuts. Freeze again for a few more hours until the mixture is scoopable and ready to serve.
The Bag Method
Whisk the ice-cream recipe ingredients into a large bowl. Pour the mixture into a quart size resealable bag and squeeze out any air. Place into a second quart size bag. Put the bags into a gallon size bag. Fill it with four cups of crushed ice and sprinkle with four tablespoons of coarse salt. Seal the bag up, wrap a towel around it and vigorously shake away! Continue for about 8 minutes or until the ice cream is frozen.
Ice-Cube Method
Combine all the ingredients and freeze them in ice-cube trays. Once frozen, put the cubes into a food processor and scrape the sides of the bowl as needed. Put the blended mixture into a container, cover and freeze for about one hour.
The Super Simple Method
This ice-cream mix has just two ingredients. Whip two cups of cream, by hand or with a mixer, until stiff peaks form. Drizzle in a can of cold condensed milk and add flavorings and mix-ins. Put into an airtight container and freeze.
